Lecture: The Invention of Money

As much as we take it for granted (it’s the water we swim in), the world’s economy is a fiction as unreal and imaginary as anything Joss Whedon or Neil Gaiman every dreamed up, and the language it speaks, its money, its currencies, are gibberish—totally intangible except as coins and bills, but illusory—just social constructs with numbers attached to help us keep track of how much to tip the Uber driver.

I went down a rabbit hole and found a puppy.
Do not need to create a 2 minute video for Feedback please.
A beautiful tool is not art. Took it out of its functional role, stripped of its function and look at it for its structure. Anything that runs contrary to your intuition is counterintuitive.
Man on a bus, but actually a man on the bus painted.
Euthanasia for kids, that understand the consequences of such an action. Must be experiencing constant and unbearable suffering. Terminally Ill.
Amount of time that has elapsed since you were born. As old as you are because how far away from the day you were born. Versus how far you are from death. 10% of wages in taxes and want everyone to pay the same, one way for fairness. Harmed equally and proportionally.

By and large, these notes would not work for me, SlowMo, but they’re specific and detailed and you phrase things nicely. I’m satisfied you’re interacting with the material in a way that suits your needs and avoids “talked about” language.

The rabbit hole hypothesis was a very different way of looking at things. Finding a puppy in the rabbit hole would make your original hypothesis a failure, but it proves a hypothesis that you had not come up with, that there would be a puppy in the rabbit hole. However, a new opportunity presents itself. You can claim this new successful finding as your own.

I honestly didn’t know who Charlize Theron was before watching the video. I was never really a big movie watcher, but her acting skills are clearly very impressive.

    Notes
-Abandon your original choice/thesis for a better one.
-Crossing something off your shopping list and substituting it for a better choice is an example of this
-Diaries can be manipulative and artificial, because every piece of writing always has a target audience.
-For diaries, the target audience is yourself in the future. You could very simply change this or that to make yourself look better.
-Anne Frank may have edited her diary. She stated that she had wanted it to be read by other people, so there is an incentive to create some things that aren’t true in order to make herself look better.
-Art doesn’t try to change your mind, because it loses its effectiveness is people disagree with it. It lets you make decisions for yourself
-Things that are crafted to have a specific function can also be considered as art
-Horizon lines are an important part of perspective.
-Hole in the wall, light is projected on to the wall and you can get a pretty easy landscape painting.
-The Human Eye picks up light upside down, but the brain corrects it by flipping it.
-You can use mirrors to match colors on paintings to copy images.
-Painted people can really mess with your perceptions
-Bariatric Surgery and children. Have all possibilities been exhausted – extreme solution.
-Euthanasia for children – Ethical, or assisted suicide?
-People need to feel in charge, have some form of control.
-Age shouldn’t be considered how many days it has been since your birth, but rather how close you are to your death. The closer you are to your death, people treat you differently. Children vs Seniors
    -What is fair?
-The “eyes” on the dogs are a survival characteristic.

When requesting feedback be specific as to what kind of feedback you need
counterintuitively: anything that comes along that is uncommon and contrary to your intuition
can be a better more impressive writing
when writing in a diary you only write for one person which is your future self so you may edit bad things out
Anne Frank wanted to write for an audience instead of just herself
    writing your own reality
Anne Franks diary went through drafts and was revised many times which kills the authenticity
The difference between art and propaganda
Art is always up for interpretation
    Counterintuitive example: Painting of breakfast
actual breakfast with paint on it
painting of a man on a bus
painted man on a real bus
common in saudia rabia for children 3 years old to receive bariatric surgery
physician assisted suicide: Doctors will prescribe you with pills that kill you if you have a terminal illness and insufferable pain
most people don’t follow through once the pills are in there possession

The example that really stood out to me and helped me understand counterintuitive thinking would be the art. The reason for that is because when the sculpture was made of useful items and once it was finished it became useless as a tool but it worked as art.

  4. chance1117's avatar chance1117 says:

-The poem had rhyming in it
-If you find a better alternative than your original hypothesis then …
-Every piece of writing is argument
-In your diary , you are shaping the observed reality of your own life and selecting what you want to remember in the future.
-Anne Frank was not writing for one person, she was writing for an audience. She wanted to be a writer , but she unfortunately died.
-Every piece of writing goes through a process of multiple drafts
-The picture shown was either a sculpture or a piece of art. It looks like a mini casket in a way , but it couldn’t have been because there is a mini knife on the side.
-art is just art and we tell stories to each other but with propaganda, art message sharing is designed to convince us.
-euthunasia is early termination of life due to incurable ill diseases.
    – PA suicide is done by prescribing pills, then the patient chooses whether or not to take the pills.
    – some dogs have survival features on them, like eye spots.
    – The diary gave me the best comprehension of what counterintuitive means because I used to write in a journal myself and the lecture made me realize that depending on what type of writer I am affected by what I write inside of my journal.

  5. bullymaguire29's avatar bullymaguire29 says:

    – think about what you’re writing while you’re writing.
    – don’t just copy down words (hear them and be able to understand what you’re writing)
    – counterintuitively is okay when doing research
    – sometimes when searching for a point you can be opened up to more/opposing opinions
    – your intuition may not get you the result you wanted but could lead you to a more enriching/rational conclusion
    – even something as simple as keeping a diary makes the subconscious decision of selecting what is important
    – your audience shapes the reality of your piece
    – editing and selecting what to include is omission but isn’t always immoral or ill intentioned
    – art is subjective
    – most things created are interpreted differently
    – something taken away from its function or purpose could be proposed as art
    – intuition can be disappointing
    – if you’re alone with your hypothesis, you might be on to something

  6. f0restrun's avatar f0restrun says:

I watched the video you made for us about good notes and bad notes.
You put a Charlize Theron video in the sharing channel because you want us to know who she is, and also so we can interact with other students from other classes and our class.

When writing a diary we are shaping the observed reality in our own life and editing what we don’t like in our life.
You can’t say everything so you say what you think is most important.

Anne frank is a novelist because she edited and did several drafts of her daily life, because her intent was for multiple people to see her art.

Anything that runs contrary to your intuition is counterintuitive.

An example of kitchen appliances being art was interesting because I never thought about the idea that art is non functioning or functioning.

There’s two ways to calculate age, the amount of time since you were born or how far away from when you die.

You want our essays to change people’s perspective to see one way so that they keep seeing it again. For example the dog you showed with the eyes that were on his fur even though his eyes were closed.

    • davidbdale's avatar davidbdale says:

    Quote
Have belief in your ideas, but also have doubt in them. This will allow for vulnerability and openness to other opinions.

    Note Taking
Bad notes just restate the topic. Good notes are purposeful summaries that provide the reader with the author’s insight.
When researching and going down a rabbit hole, if you end up finding a rabbit then you prove it. However, if you end up finding a puppy then that is counterintuitive and you should prove the unexpected.
    Feedback
The best way to receive feedback is to identify your needs and then articulate them to you. That will allow for your specific need to be attended to with full focus.

    Counterintuitive
Alexa Mede paints 3D objects but makes them look like a typical 2D painting. This exhibits counterintuitive being that when it goes against the viewers’ intuition when it comes to being an actual 3D object.
When it comes to euthanasia for kids it is heavily debated being that they are so young. However, when it comes to an older person it is easily understood. This is because age is measured by how long you have been living since you were born. If you look at the age from how long you have to die then it changes the whole debate on whether it is just.

  8. We continue our discussion on the topic of counterintuitive. We discussed diarists and their intentions. If you keep a diary you are writing for yourself, your future self. But when you write for yourself are you telling yourself the truth? Or are you lying to yourself, because you’re still writing to a specific audience even if it is just yourself. What would I get out of lying to myself. I made a simple google search to find the proper definition of the word counterintuitive, and it said “contrary to intuition or to common-sense expectation (but often nevertheless true).” Another example to describe the concept of counterintuitively is the art piece regarding perspective, what our eyes see is not what our brain understands. We all look at someone differently. Another counterintuitive example was the painting of the painting of breakfast, but actually it was breakfast, painted. All to mess with our minds. It is upsetting our intuitions. The idea of bariatric surgery also was an argument I had in my mind with myself. We accept adults who receive the surgery but what about children. I believe if all other resources were attempted with no success then it could be accepted. Because how did these babies gain so much weight, as a mindless toddler someone had to introduce and influence this bad habit. How do we calculate age? It is how long since we were born, or it could be how long until we die. Someone that will die today is just as old as a 97 year old. Back in the day people would live till about 40 years old, when now it is late 90’s. Counterintuitive is a new way of calculating an idea. By proposing a new perspective that others can see something, and new unsee it. Like an outside of the box idea, but more just around the corner. But making purposeful summaries you are making your own opinions and shaping your own perspective from material that you find. I do not need a video on feedback, I got a good understanding of how to do it.

    My Notes Feb 2nd.
Personal Note: I will be making use of the feedback channel which is located under Syllabus as Feedback Please. Can be checked off in edit categories.
In an attempt to influence other people, especially within diaries, lies begin to come about. As in Anne Frank’s diary, was manipulated, by herself, for the sake of others.
Perspective is in the eye of the beholder. Examples with the diary, or the paintings, or the room light example. Tim Jenison actually recreated this room light example and just painted what he saw. Would use a mirror to guide him. A man was painted on a bus, it was not a painting. It is all about perspective, perceptions and the eye.
Purposeful summary is creating a summary that summarizes the key points within an article. That also allows the reader to also gather an understanding of the article as a whole, with the key points.
Question for the Professor; Just to double check my understanding. For the purposeful summaries, we are writing about the counterintuitive articles on the right side of our WordPress. Nothing related to our hypothesis, correct?
    My Counter intuitivity notes;
Out of the list of examples of counterintuitive thinking, the ones that helped me to understand the most would be the shopping list and the art. Out of all I think the shopping list is the easiest example here just to understand. With the art, I think it just gave me a different understanding, especially seeing the video of Tim Jenison with the room, and just seeing how he painted with the mirror of the face. I think both overall just gave me a different perspective to what counterintuitive actually means.

    • davidbdale's avatar davidbdale says:

I’m glad you’re getting a handle on counterintuitivity, Rush. Two notes for you:

      1. Purposeful summary is creating a summary that summarizes the key points within an article. That also allows the reader to also gather an understanding of the article as a whole, with the key points.

Almost. While the key points of an article are clearly important to the Original Author, they may not be the primary takeaway for YOU. A Purposeful Summary is fair to the original, but its emphasis may be VERY different. You shape the material (as a diarist shapes the details of her life to create a narrative of how the day went) to YOUR NEEDS, emphasizing whatever helps you make YOUR point.

      2. Question for the Professor; Just to double check my understanding. For the purposeful summaries, we are writing about the counterintuitive articles on the right side of our WordPress. Nothing related to our hypothesis, correct?

Yes. Choose from the Counterintuitives list. This exercise is unrelated to your own research project.

good notes- make clear, specific, claims. They don’t try to summarize everything
going down a rabbit hole and you find a puppy- looking for specific information about a topic and finding new information that defied expectations.- Counterintuativity
    Favorite actor- Zendaya
Finding things that are surprising to you can benefit your paper- you are able to incorporate new and interesting information into your paper.
Diary is typically written for one person to read, the author. typically as manipulative as other writing, you say what is most important to you… others may not feel the same way about what you feel is important.
ART DOES NOT USUALLY TRY AND CHANGE OUR MINDS
taking something out of it’s functional role, anything can be turned into art
the different between a painting of something, and that thing painted
Euthanasia for kids- a child would be able to ask to be euthanized. A lot of effort and permission is required
When you look for confirmation that hypothesis is correct, and you can’t find any, that relates to finding a puppy in a rabbit hole. You have your own original idea
Purposeful summary- just identify what is important to you, just like a diary.

Every piece of work that you write is in some shape or form, an argument.
When you write a diary, do you write it for your future or present self? You are the intended audience, so why or what do you look to get out of it?
If an object has a function, it is not art. It is a tool. If something is taken out of its function, then it becomes art.

-Euthanasia for kids seems so wrong, it is in Delaware where you can ask for assistance
-A sleeping dog has a particular job, has a survival characteristic, and they’re sleeping but the spot on their eyebrow looks like they are awake.

HERE is how your notes could have been different
-The video about class notes taught me that good notes are like Purposeful Summaries.
-Counterintuitivity can be found in art, diary-writing, medicine, gender identities, anywhere that things don’t go as we expect them to.
-Purposeful Summaries don’t have to cover all the original material. They’re about what’s useful to US.
-Euthanasia for kids seems so wrong, it is in Delaware where you can ask for assistance
-A sleeping dog has a particular job, has a survival characteristic, and they’re sleeping but the spot on their eyebrow looks like they are awake.
–Taking good notes is actually like writing small purposeful summaries.

    Notes: 2/2/2022

Notes are not a way of reviewing topics but rather summarize the most important and memorable takeaways from the lecture. It’s the rabbit hole we go down that is so addicting to find more and more on the topic. We can find puppies that are even more against our expectations that make our work even more valuable and meaningful.

Charlize Theron: Looks fierce and powerful based on the picture of her on the front of the video we watched. Her change in character in different movies shows real emotion and physical ability to show a different side of herself and portray the character to another level. She’s gorgeous and I was not expecting her dedication to her roles which is rare and unexpected.

Counterintuitively is something that is contrary to intuition. Finding alternatives that are a lot more satisfying is what refining is really about. This is a process of exploration and self-development that can be due to the change in perspective.

Everything that we write about is an argument.

Anne Frank’s diary is meant to be read by other people which can make her lie even more while trying to influence people. Her drive to be known by others can make her write about anything and make people believe different things which were something I never thought of when I heard about diaries. To me at first, diaries seemed very personal until today’s class when I realized that a diary is just another form of writing which is always argumentative.

A tool can not be art. Art tells stories based on what conclusions people want to make. What was eye-opening about this statement is that sometimes we do not think in-depth to really understand the things around us.

The breakfast painting looked like an artist painted it as anyone would think. Once I was told by Professor Hodges that the eggs and sausage were real and just covered with paint. My mind was blown away by the fact that I could not see it at all. This discussion made me realize how illusions and perspectives really change our way of thinking.

Euthanasia for kids is a horrible topic to discuss and think about. After listening to the discussion I realized how there are positives such as helping people that have terminal and incurable diseases to avoid the struggle of suffering and living out the last couple of months of your life. There seem to be negatives and positives to every topic but how we see it through our eyes is what makes us so one-sided and avoid the positives.

Counterintuitively is an adverb, as in

      “You see the situation counterintuitively.”

The noun (Counterintuitivity) is what you need in your sentence:

Counterintuitivity is something that is contrary to intuition.

  18. – Feedback is essential for success in this class, and is the case in more classes, in fact. When I ask for feedback, ask specific questions to make it easier to get the feedback that you are looking for. Add category and put it into Feedback Please so that he knows that I need feedback. Reply with specific questions that I have. For general feedback leave a message saying you just want general feedback and first impressions.
    – Diaries have a very biased view because the author is the hero of their story so they write only the details that they find important.
    – Art is defined as an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. In my opinion, the grater tool can be described as art because it was a creation that allows us to gather shavings in a more creative way which is what art is. Duchamp, however, did not have a piece of art when he took the bottle rack and called it his art because he did not add anything creative to it, so it can’t be considered his art. The rack itself can be considered art because of how it creatively dries bottles. Any creation, regardless if it was meant to be functional or beautiful, can be considered art.
    – Alex Meade has a very interesting style of art because of how incredibly realistic and unique it is. It is counterintuitive because the objects are real, just painted to look like it is a painting. This unique take on art is one of my new favorites, right next to Dali with his surrealist paintings. I appreciate their creativity and interesting perspectives on art.
    – Euthanasia for kids is an incredibly harsh and inhumane choice that Belgium has made. Letting a kid decide that they would like to be killed to end their suffering would cause immense amounts of trauma to the kid because they have to make the realization that they are never going to heal and are going to die making them lose all hope at a young age. It is extremely traumatic for the parents as well because they have to see their children choosing euthanasia over the suffering they are going through illustrating just how pained their children are.

    * There is a category called “Feedback Please,” which alerts the professor about work that we would want to get feedback on.
    * When writing an essay and using evidence, you need to cite a source. Citing is making reference to someone else’s work so you can’t take credit for someone else’s work (plagiarism)
    * We use the an informal APA style citation. Instead of saying the quote and referencing it at the end, then we’re going to incorporate the citation in the middle of the sentence.
    * There are many different styles of quoting the text. There are different ways to cite the work of another author, but it’s all equally valid.

An individual legislator cannot be bi-partisan unless he is a part of both parties which would not happen. There can be a bi-partisan group of legislatures because this would contain members of both parties. This teaches us the value of being careful of how you word things to insure your work is being perceived how you intended it to be
In order to get feedback on our updated work you must add your post to the Feedback Please category. This allows Professor Hodges to know when your work has been updated and is ready to be regraded. I do not think a “How To” video will be necessary.
On 9/29 our first 5 sources of the white paper and our updated hypothesis will be due.
An in-text citation is how you link your citation to the source where you found this information. This is when you refer to the direct information the article lists and not a summary. Our citations will be in the type In-Text Citation in APA Style. Our citation will be included in the text and not cited in parentheses at the end of the sentence. You will directly link the article to this text when stating the title of the article where this information was found. For in-text citations, you can leave out the title of the article but make sure there is enough evidence to point to that article for readers to be able to find on their own.
We began listening to the podcast “Stone Money”. This podcast discusses the question of where did the money go at the time of the stock market crash

The warm up describes how different ways to say a phrase could either mean something completely different or just not make sense at all. This means that we have to make sure we know what we’re typing

Providing information from a source and actually citing it are two different things. Providing the information is simply just explaining and summarizing what happened in what you read. Citing it gives the reader the chance to actually go out and research the topic more

Instead of just citing the source after the sentence, we are going to name and identify the source during the sentence and put the link to the site after instead.

Always try to combine the citation within the sentence of what you’re citing

  24. giantsfan224's avatar giantsfan224 says:

    – The warm up teaches us to be careful with how we phrase certain things. All it takes is for one word to be in the wrong spot for the entire thing to not make sense. (Ex. the bi-partican legislators)

    – Link a word to the source, instead of using the parenthetical citations. Include the author, website, and date of publication in the sentence.

In-Text Citations allow you to give credit to the authors and websites you got the information you researched from. It helps others either use that piece as well, or gives them a link to follow to confirm that your research is legitimate. As you cite your sources in an APA essay, you put the page in parentheses, name the author and date of citation, and link your source. Quotations represent direct quotes taken from the author. You need to contain enough information about the article you got your information from in the essay for your reader to be able to find the source in the bibliography. When reading articles in this class, the page the writing is on may require you to subscribe or pay a high price to access it. Our tuition pays for a lot of databases and will give us access to articles related to our topic that would normally be expensive.
Money is fiction. This makes it extremely difficult to count how much total money there is in the world. It is hard to keep track when you give money to the bank and they loan it to people. On the Island of Yap, gigantic stones are used as money. This is why they know how much money there is.

In text citation references you to the source using APA style. Incorporates the source into the text you are citing without using parentheses. Going more in depth, in text citation, is a summary/paraphasing based citation putting the information into your own words faithfully. This allows you to cite without plagiarizing giving credit to the author. Doing this also requires an APA style citation of the source in your reference page that links you to the article. There are many different examples where in text citation can be used which can include: the name of journal, title of article, plus a paraphrase or author, name of journal, plus paraphrase.

Sometimes the article titles will make a paragraph clunky. We just need enough hints so the reader can review the references and find the correct source.

The island of Yap uses huge stones for money. They are impractical and have got to the point where they no longer move them. The people just acknowledge it is someone’s stone. One stone lost at sea has been passed down through generations although no one living has seen it. This is similar to our money because it is not actually sitting in the bank it is passed out for loans.

-Feedback Please is a category that is to alert the professor that a piece of work is worth looking at. It is usually for after the initial grading and you would like to improve and resubmit it to try and get a better grade.
-Citing a source and providing information about the source is different. In this course, we use Informal In Text Citation (APA Style). Information like the name of the journal and author.
-Fitting a source’s information into the grammar of our sentences is going to be how we fit in the in-text citation along with a link to the URL.
-The trick is to fit the source information into your sentences while keeping a good flow that allows the reader to not get bored of reading while getting through the in-text citation.
-As long as you provide the reader with enough information about the source, so they would be able to find it while using natural language.
-Money is fiction. The bewildering concept is explained in the stone money broadcast.

    – Feedback Please is a way to get feedback from the professor. You can get feedback on the same piece multiple times.

    – In-text citations give credit to the original author and show where the information came from. It gives the information as to where the source can be found.
    – We use informal in-text citation (APA Style). We won’t be using parenthetical citations and will be linking to the other article.
    – You need to provide enough information for the reader to be able to find the source in the references.
    – There are 5 different examples for how to cite sources. You can directly quote the source, you can paraphrase, you can include the name of the author, but don’t have to, especially if there is no author listed. As long as the reader can find the links in your references, you are good.

    – For next class, we need to listen to the podcast about money and what happened to the money when the housing market crashed. We also need to write a paragraph to practice in-text citations.
    – For next Tuesday, we need to write a 1000 word essay on Stone Money.

    – The people on the island use large pieces of limestone as their currency. They move them back and forth between people when they make purchases. Sometimes they don’t move the stones, but everyone just accepts whose stone it is. When one of the stones sank, people acknowledged the stone belonged to a man, even though they had never seen it. This is the concept that money is fictional and that no one can see how much money they have at one time. If everyone showed up to the bank at the same time and wanted to get their money, the banks wouldn’t have nearly enough to give it to everyone. No one know how much money we have at one time.

Phrasing can be of great importance, since one little misplacement of a word can result in the description not making sense

In order to get feedback l regularly, edit your post and put it in the category “feedback please”

You definitely do not need a video for “feedback please” it is all straightforward

Citing something and a formal in-text citations are different things. One provides information from the article mentioned and the other gives the reader a direction to the website.

Informal text citations allow there to be a bridge for the writer to link informality to formal writing.

Informal text citations only involve the link on an important word

The actual citation part in informal citations comes from mentioning him in the paper, the last part is providing the link to the original article

You do not always have to provide the link in the article, as long as you mention the author and website the reader can find it in the references page.

There are different styles of informal text citations, switching it up can be a healthy change of flavor for the reader

On the island of yap, money is measured through a large coin of limestone.

It seems counterintuitive to think that only acknowledgement of money means ownership, but that is how we deal with our money today.

Modern day society has the same attitude with money as a primitive island using big limestone rocks as currency

Yap- uses a large stone objects that don’t move position as currency, seems counterintuitive but it’s not very different from America’s use of imaginary money. The warm up was another play on the order of words. There is no such thing as a group of bi-partisan legislators because that describes a group of individuals who would be a part of two parties. However, there is a bi-partisan group of individuals because ‘bi-partisan’ becomes the descriptor of ‘group’. There can be individuals of multiple parties within a group, but not you can not describe a single person as bi-partisan.

Nested quotation example:”he said ‘I am a silly person’ and he was not lying”; alternates each nested quotation. Example: “I said ‘he said “I am a silly person” and he was not lying’ and I was not lying”.

Money doesn’t have value until you spend it. These people during the market crash of 2008 were buying houses. The houses’ value went up double and double, people would take out loans with the value of the houses they owned and ended up owning a ton of houses. The bubble popped and trillions of dollars disappeared.

On the island of Yap, these people carved these massive stone coins. The coin wouldn’t move, but ownership would be transferred as payment. Sometimes, when they were transporting the coins from the island they carved them from, they would sink. The coin still existed, so someone still owned it regardless of the fact that it sits at the bottom of the sea.

“Be proud of your ideas but not arrogant.”

You cannot have a group of bi-partisan legislators because the legislators are not individually bi-partisan, you can only have the group be bi-partisan, meaning a bi-partisan group of legislators.

The Feedback Please section can be used whenever we’d like to proactively request feedback on an item or aspect of our writing from the professor.

Citations are key to show where we took information or inspiration from. They can also lead readers to the source to verify what you said and explore any further interest they may have in the subjects of the article. We use Informal In-Text Citations and APA Style over MLA Style (“References” instead of “Works Cited” for instance). Informal In-Text Citations include the names of the writer and article/journal/publication in question, and could also include bibliographic information like the year and date when the item was written. Both direct quotes and paraphrasing have their place.

Before Thursday we should listen to the one-hour podcast titled “The Invention of Money”. Before next Tuesday we should complete a 1000-word essay on Stone Money, incorporating the lessons of purposeful summaries on the sources provided alongside some of our own. Furthermore, we will use Informal In-Text Citations and References (APA Style).

Money is a very abstract thing. Not only is it represented physically via pieces of paper with an arbitrary worth, so many transactions are just the altering of numbers on a screen between two parties with no cash physically moved, taken or given.

The residents of Yap just use a pre-industrial, pre-internet version of our own treatment of currency. The giant stone disks which represent their currency never actually are moved, and even if on the bottom of the sea still carry value and are said to be owned. This seems ridiculous, but it is no different than when an employer transfers some amount of a digital number from their account to yours. Not only is cash itself arbitrary to begin with, but it never even changes hands whether between the two parties or inside the bank, and the people of Yap are just doing the exact same thing. In fact you could even argue what they are doing is more real because our own currencies abandoned the Gold Standard whereas while Yap’s people do not physically transfer the stones to each other similarly to our own digital transactions, those theoretical transactions are based on a real object- a stone standard of sorts. Furthermore, their own “minting” by carving the stones on an island 250-miles away stands as a currency control similar to our own complicated system of regulation and mints.

Why is there no such thing as a group of bi-partisan legislators?
A legislator can not be bi-partisan, they can not be a part of both parties and they can not be a group.
Feedback please is something we will use to get feedback on our work for Professor Hodges.
We went over how to cite for our essays Professor Hodges would like informal in-text citation(APA style).
We must name the author publication and the site publication.
Always make sure you cite at the end of your essay.
We went over examples of citations for example (Author,Name of Journal, plus phrase)(Name of Journal, Title of Article, Paraphrase).
Professor Hodges is making us create in-text citations for next class.
For next week’s class we will have to write a 1000 word essay on Stone Money.
Professor Hodges let us listen to the first ten minutes of stone money and I agree money is fiction.
They are saying money can disappear at any time during recessions.
In my opinion money was only created to keep people a slave to it.
People work till they die for money to live and for their future families.
We talked about this crazy Yap money which is just this big stone.

When we cite our sources in our paper, they will be in-text apa citations
We will link the sources in the paper
    Stone Money
Islanders from Yap used giant wheels of limestone as currency
An exchange of money would involve using a pole to roll the stone to a person’s house
When a stone was lost at sea, the system they had in place stayed
When we give our money to banks they loan it out to others, the rock may be at the bottom of the ocean but it still has worth just like how we have money in banks that we physically don’t see

Party is the way we divide policies, such as democrat and republic. Bi-partisan is belong to 2 party, legislator can’t be bi-partisan.
If students need feedback on their post, we could go to the post, edit it in the Feedback Please category and the professor will give feedback.
Citation is the way of mentioning the publishing from the source. Or simply says where are those information we took from such as, where was it published, name of the author,… It is a way to help other people find the source that we mentioned is the truth. There are an few techniques to cite a source to a summary or our own post such as publisher and title, quotes, paraphrase,… when creating a statement, try to use natural language and in-text citations to provide information for readers. Homework task uses a small summary. Professor also show us the first 10 minutes of the Stone Money.
