    1. Background
      1. The remake of a 25-year study focuses on a variety of aspects that feed into coverage of women’s sports. After studying local and national television services in the Los Angeles area, researchers uncovered a multitude of sly comments and lack of coverage that belittled women’s sports.
    2. How I used it
      1. I frequently pulled statistics or examples from this research, as it contained information and phrasing that I was unable to find elsewhere. This was also a source that provided me with smaller research papers that tied into my paper well.
  2. Bridge, A. (2019, May). WNBA: A League Where the Players Always Lose. Retrieved December 12, 2022.
    1. Background
      1. An undergraduate student created a thesis surrounding the history of basketball, and more specifically the history of the WNBA for her honors project.
    2. How I used it

  3. Tomastik, J., Raven, L., & Belcher, D. (Hosts).  (2022, November 23). Kelsey Plum Exposes How Underpaid WNBA Players Really Are!! (No. 122) [Audio podcast episode]. In The Residency Podcast. PodBean.
    1. Background

    2. How I used it
      1. Before listening to Plum, I was unaware of what a CBA or BRI were. I also pulled information that she provided to place into my definition argument.
  4. Ettienne, Lerae. It’s Time to Pay up, the Justification for Higher Salaries for WNBA Players: An Analysis of the WNBA’s Success and Employing Mediation between the WNBA and NBA to Leverage Future Success, 19 Pepp. Disp. Resol. L.J. 175 (2019).

      1. Lerae Ettienne dives into the monetary structure of the WNBA and the collaboration between them and the NBA. She also highlights factors that would explain why the league has not gained the amount of traction the media expects it to have.
    2. How I used it
      1. I used three of the reasons that Ettienne provides to explain why the number of fans is scarce in the earliest seasons. I also liked to look back on the comparisons between the WNBA and women’s college basketball to create a better understanding for myself.
  5. Baker, Elle. A Comparison of NBA and WNBA Player Salaries. KSU Undergrad. Research Fellowship Working Paper Series.
    1. Background
      1. Elle Baker developed a research paper on the league payroll and average salary of both the WNBA and the NBA. Baker includes data on both leagues, as well as interpretations on the information collected.
    2. How I used it
      1. I found this to be an interesting source because of how much data Baker provides. I used this to look at the external factors that feed into the amount of money each player makes in each league.

    2. How I used it
      1. I used this article as the main source of my rebuttal. I referenced it throughout the argument to present my audience with a different perspective.
  7. Salary Cap Overview, CBA Breakdown, 2022.
    1. Background
      1. This website looks at the different aspects of basketball that the collective bargaining agreement affects. This includes dates, free agency, salary cap, and more. The salary cap is calculated by BRI and the number of NBA teams.
    2. How I used it
      1. I used this website to look at the salary cap overview. I found this website after looking at Kelsey Plum’s interview. It allowed me to understand what CBA, BRI, and a salary cap are.

    2. How I used it

      1. This article talks about what revenue in sports is and how it is calculated.
    2. How I used it
      1. This came in handy when developing my definition argument because it provided me with a better understanding of revenue and how revenue can be affected.
  10. Billings A. C., Young B. D. (2015). Comparing flagship news programs: Women’s sports coverage in ESPN’s SportsCenter and FOX Sports 1’s Sports Live. Electronic News, 9, 3–16.
    1. Background
      1. Billings and Young analyzed 118 hours of sports broadcasts, half being SportsCenter and the other half being Sports Live. The goal of the study was to see how much time each show featured a story on women’s sports.
    2. How I used it
      1. I used the statistic that they found that states that less than 1% of time on these shows was dedicated to a story relating to women’s sports. This statistic jumps out to readers, and personally made me think about how we really do not see anything on women’s sports on these big name shows.
  11. Cooky C., Messner M. A., Hextrum R. (2013). Women play sports, but not on TV: A longitudinal study of televised news media. Communication & Sport, 1, 203–230.

    2. How I used it
      1. I quoted information found in this study throughout each of my short arguments. In the study they found that when women were mentioned there was often a negative connotation to it.

This SOUNDS detailed, but in a very few words you could NAME the “factors that would explain.”

    Background
Lerae Ettienne dives into the monetary structure of the WNBA and the collaboration between them and the NBA. She also highlights factors that would explain why the league has not gained the amount of traction the media expects it to have.
    How I used it
I used three of the reasons that Ettienne provides to explain why the number of fans is scarce in the earliest seasons. I also liked to look back on the comparisons between the WNBA and women’s college basketball to create a better understanding for myself.

Your “How I Used It” communicates almost nothing.

I won’t do this for the rest of the entries, but most of them are equally vague. I should be able to read your Annotated Bib and get a very strong understanding of your overall argument.
