  • This article does into depth about the effects napping has on the brain. Especially within newborns this website describes how napping is a benifical and common practice for the toddlers of the world. This is an interesting aspect to look at because we are so commonly ignoring the fact that as we grow older the art of napping is forgotten and brushed aside.

2. https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-1-4757-2210-9_9 (Adult Napping and
Its Effects on Ability to Function)

  • This informational essay discusses the effects of napping on adults and how it can be benifical. They belie if a nap schedule is repeated regularly it can be very benifical for mental health. Because people are used to long draining days going on 10+ hours of required nonstop attention, this causes stress, anxiety, and tiredness. A simple solution to this problem according to this essay is a break and more specifically a nap. The essay describes how in some foreign countries it is custom to have a mid day “fiesta” or nap that is used for the sole purpose of giving people a mid day break to recharge their batteries. This practice can be very benifical for people, especially because it is suggested that only 1 hour of napping is required thus making it easily compatible with a busy schedule

  • This resources dives into the side effects caused by napping, both good in a controlled and healthy nap schedule and bad in a unhealthy and disoriented nap schedule. But when you think about it the same ideology can be said about sleep schedules, so why is it we have this stigma about adults napping? This article explains the personal benefits that come with napping both mentally and physically. For example the article explains how napping can boost overall happiness while also lowering blood pressure. Also relating to college students the brain responds to gathering information better when rested. This means if a student can take a 30 minute nap before a class they will be recharged and willing to learn more. One of the many reasons why napping can be so benifical especially to students and people with demanding jobs.

  • Study shows that when when workers took a 30 minute nap in between each hour they worked every day, their production levels and attitude were at a all time high. This was a positive sign that napping actually has massive benefits for people, especially with a heavy work schedule. fatigue and stress are huge mental issues in todays world, especially with so much technology and the increase in the speed at which we all move at. People could really benefit from information like this, especially when so manny people feel drained in the western lifestyle of working most of the day. These healthy habits are so undervalued simply because they are publicly viewed as useless. For zero cost or zero prescriptions you can better your well being and nobody is hearing about it.

5. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0889159113002766 (Can napping protect against negative inflammatory and health effects of poor sleep?)

  • college students on average do not get nearly enough sleep as they should be at nights. This is why so many college kids feel drained, and lazy. Without a healthy amount of sleep its hard to prepare for a day of hard work which requires a high amount of attention. Although a simple solution to the naked eyes seems to be getting the health amount of hour required but with school work, extra activities, and utilities to do this may be a hard request for students especially ones who are inclined to have a good academic record. This is why college students should look for alternatives such as napping. By napping throughout the day for no longer than a hour it is proven to re stimulate the brain and help refresh the body. If students can get themselves on a healthy schedule the benefits are extraordinary.

Topics for Smaller Papers (very preliminary)

  • Sleep deprivation in college students
  • Starting school later so kids have more sleep time
  • mental health issues associated with not getting enough sleep
  • how many hours of sleep is considered healthy sleep
  • How many people actually get a required amount of sleep
