Top Truck

Everyone has seen these vehicles on the road at least once. From old and dilapidated to brand new. These vehicles are ford and chevy trucks. These trucks are known for being America’s trucks.  Each brand has their fans and haters for millions of reasons from their engines to the way they look. Each brand’s fans would argue for hours on why their truck outlasts the competitors. I hypothesize that fords outlast chevys. After extensive research a factual answer can be provided.

The term outlast can mean many different things but webster’s dictionary puts it as outliving/lasting longer. It  has millions of possibilities when it comes to a truck. It could be the engine, the transmission, the frame, and all the other parts of a truck. For the sake of this research and hypothesis, the standards for a truck outlasting another will be described as its time on the road since it was made with the factory powertrain. When trying to figure out what makes a truck last longer then another you will be faced with many different questions like the amount of parts replaced and or rebuilt. It could also come down to the maintenance the previous owners have put into the trucks and the amount of previous owners per truck.

To represent this type of outlasting will be the amount of miles the trucks have. An article posted on Four Wheel Trends has many facts proving that ford trucks will surpass the lifespan of a chevy. “Ford trucks last longer compared to Chevrolet trucks. The Ford F-150 and Ranger trucks have a lifespan of 300,000 miles with a life expectancy of 20 years. The Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado trucks only last 200,000 miles, providing a lifespan of 15 years.” (Turner). The reason we can’t measure the lasting of these vehicles by the amount still on the road today is because of the huge difference in sales between these two brands. According to Statista.com Ford sold 726,004 pick up trucks in 2021 while Chevy only sold a whopping 519,774. There may be a reason for this. If truck buyers are doing their research on the vehicles before purchasing one they will find out that ford overpowers chevy in several different ways from horsepower to towing capacity.

Another thing that plays a big role in this subject and can defer research is brand bias. What I mean by that is people with a fiery love for one of the brands can hop on to a website and create an article stating why their brand of truck is better and use non factual statements that may trick people that are uneducated in this field. “Are Chevy full-size trucks better than Fords? When it comes to rugged, off-road rides and capable towing and hauling performance, two automakers are a cut above the rest: Chevrolet and Ford. … However, when it comes down to it, Chevy has the edge over Ford.” (Lamkin). This quote was pulled from a website called burlingtonchevy.com, not surprising. Considering this statement does not have a sliver of factual evidence or any statistics for that matter it is deemed useless to the research.

There may not be a correct answer or a winner as to which truck will outlast which. MotorBiscuit.com brings up a great point. “Both the Ford F-150 and the Chevy Silverado are built to last. Both scored some pretty impressive reliability ratings too. But of the two, which truck is the better choice? As it turns out, it all depends on what you’re looking for in your next pickup truck.” (Brennan). These trucks are so comparable that it may be hard to find a trusty source that can provide a true answer as to which truck will outlast the other. Considering these trucks don’t all die at the same time it can be very hard to calculate. For instance one Ford engine can last 460,000 miles while another of the same liter and year may only last 250,000 miles.

I’m intrigued that your White Paper has the look and feel of the first draft of a completed essay, Grizzly. It’s a good idea but not what I usually see in these documents. It must be clear to you at this point that you’re going to need an objective source of data to reconcile all the fan positions taken by the manufacturers, dealers, and brand loyalists.
