I have a friend who is a Ford truck owner and he is very public about his opinion towards Chevy and how much he hates it. This is a funny topic.

I agree with Elk, this is a funny topic, GB. But it isn’t a hypothesis yet, and I can’t tell from what you have here which direction you’re headed.

It could be a sociological analysis of brand loyalty using the Ford/Chevy family allegiance as a test group. That’s a strong possibility with plenty of academic study to enlist as support for whatever your hypothesis turns out to be.

One angle would be to establish some sort of objective criteria for which brand is indisputably “better.” If you can establish that, then loyalty to the inferior brand would arguably be based on something subjective, a perception of value not based on fact. It could still be fun, but more academic than Calvin’s argument.

Like all feedback, this is meant to begin a conversation, Grizzly.
I am eager to hear your reply.

There are many things that still need to be figured out to complete this hypothesis. I thank you for your response and I will take all of your advice and use it to my advantage when figuring out what direction I am headed with this.

I got REALLY specific doing a search for sources on Google Scholar, Grizzly. I looked for academic papers to match these keywords:
    “brand loyalty” +resistance +ford/chevy

There are tens of thousands of academic papers on “brand loyalty,” which isn’t a surprise. But I actually got 5 hits for brand loyalty plus resistance plus ford/chevy.

COUNTERINTUITIVE NOTE: You don’t really WANT a ton of sources that support your specific hypothesis. It might make “writing” a paper easy, but it will also make it pointless if there’s nothing left to say on the topic and all you do is repeat the observations of others.

But in this case, I got a hit that I found really intriguing about “corporate brand logo tattoos.” Had you thought about that? The willingness of some truck owners to permanently modify their own bodies with tattoo art depicting their favorite brand?
