Annotated Bibliography Lashawn Robinson

Background – The article “A leader’s framework for decision making,” details a Chicago a gunman murdering seven people in fast food restaurant in 1993. The Deputy Chief Walter Gasio faced a great deal of pressure when he had to make several decisions when he gathering evidence on the suspect. Deputy Chief Gasio gathered the proper evidence and made effective decisions that helped him find the killer and prevented the offender from committing other crimes. If Deputy Chief Gasio did not make an effective decision more lives could have been lost. The deputy, created a new system in which leaders can make a decision and form a new perspective based on “complexity science.” In this situation complexity science achieves the same positive result as contemplating a decision overnight.

Intended to use – I used this article to prove “sleeping on it” is not the only method that can be used to solve the problem, the external factors outside the situation that caused and created the scene is just as beneficial.

Background – In the article “Got a big decision to make? Sleep on it,” Dr Maarten Bos had proven “sleep(ing) on it ” is associated with better memory performance and “slow-wave” sleep in particular has been shown to enhance our ability to make mental connections and integrate associated information.” According to this method, individuals who sleep on it have the appropriate time and space to gather information in the most effective way.

Intended to used – This article’s claim is that while individuals who sleep on it discovered more creative ways to solve their problem. The use of this will be a good source because it supports the fact that “sleeping on it” helps individuals to make effective decisions.

Background –  In the Article “Emotional intelligence tied to better decision making” Dr Rick Nauert suggest how one’s emotions can affect their decision making. “People often make decisions that are influenced by emotions that have nothing to do with the decisions they are making,” said Stéphane Coté, a professor at the University of Toronto’s, Rotman School of Management. An individual’s final decision is based on how they are currently feeling while making a specific decision. Research has also proven that many people tend to take this approach, and it has negative effects on their decision making.

Intended to use– I intended to used this article to prove that there are several emotional factors that take part in decision making, in either a positive or negative way.

Background – In the article ” A counter – intuitive approach to making complex decision” author and social psychologist Maarten Bos and Amy Cuddy “suggest sleeping on it” helps individuals make appropriate decisions and its the most effective why when making decisions. Mr. Bos and Mr. Cuddy discuses how leaders such as Barack Obama benefit from using the “sleeping on it” method. When having the position of presidency, Obama prefers to balance out his choices, and outcomes by analyzing his options. This method of “sleeping on it” is occasionally used by several leaders.

Intended to used – I intended to use this article has evidence which could prove how ” sleeping on it” is used by leader and it have been effective. And how this method has positive effects on peoples life.

Background – In ” The science of decision making” author Murphy discuses the different strategies an individuals uses when making complex decisions. The latest research in neuroscience, behavioral, engineering and economic helps stimulates our brain during decision making. Mr Murphy also discuses how being knowledgeable helps people to make effective decisions.

Intended to used- I included this article as my source because I wanted to prove that using a basic form of knowledge and tangible facts are more influential and supportive than basing your decisions off of how you relate or feel for that problem or person.
