Rebuttal Argument—Lashawn Robinson

“Sleeping  on it not necessarily the most effective method when making an effective decision , and there are other methods an individual can use.  In fact majority of the time individuals does not have enough time to use the “sleeping on it” method and have to make a split second decision. It does not mean those individuals would make an ineffective decision. Since the sleeping on it method proves ineffective ,  a split second decision is more effective.  An illustration of good decision making is demonstrated in the article” A leader’s framework for decision making.”  In 1993 a gunman murdered seven people at a fast food restaurant in Chicago. Deputy Chief Walter Gasio faced a great deal of pressure when he had to make several decisions. Deputy Chief Gasio gathered the proper evidence and made effective decisions that helped find the killer, preventing the offender from committing other crimes, that can have negative impact on people’s lives. If Deputy Chief Gasio did not make these effective decision more lives would be lost.

There are new methods in which leaders make effective  decisions and form new perspectives based on complexity science.  In this situation complexity science achieves the same positive results as an overnight contemplation. There are many situations like this where leaders and other individuals have to make a split second decision. However, that does not necessarily means they did not make an effective one. If Deputy Gasio had slept on his decision than  many more lives could have been lost.  Also they most likely would not find the killer, and the proper evidence to get a conviction.

    Hey, Lashawn.
Thank you for requesting feedback. I hope it’s not too late in the semester to help you.
P1. You have punctuation problems here with your quotation, Lashawn. Then another punctuation problem with the *ones. Then a grammar problem of number disagreement between *one and *their. And that’s just the first sentence. Please get some help with these very basic issues before you export your essays into your Portfolio. They won’t pass if they still contain errors.

What approach do you mean, Lashawn? Emotions affect our decisions, says Nauert. People decide for emotional reasons, says Cote. People decide based on how they feel, says you. Is that an “approach”? Or is it just human nature? I’ll bet the people making the decisions believed they were being objective (while the researchers attributed their decisions to emotional causes).

How will you even begin to prove that people make “wrong decisions” from emotion? I hope you have a good definition of “wrong.”

P2. Your first sentence is very unclear. I really can’t respond because I don’t get it. It seems to contain two very important claims. Cote seems to be implying what I was hinting above, that we can’t eliminate emotion from our decision-making, but that we have to recognize and acknowledge the emotional component of the “process” and factor in that it might make us somewhat unreasonable or illogical. Some emotions apparently are relevant, others irrelevant, and we can incorporate the relevant emotions to make better decisions, while factoring in irrelevant emotions results in “bad decisions.”

If you had said that, I’d be praising you now. I’m not sure it’s accurate, but it’s pretty clear. Strive for clarity, Lashawn. Get some help before the portfolio. This essay would not pass.
