Men Defining Rape: A History

http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2012/08/men-defining-rape-history

This article discusses how the concept of what exactly is rape has changed over time. But it is more focused on what men define as rape rather than how women define rape. It might also have to do with the fact that we live in a male dominated society, not just in the US but also in many other nations. The author of the article, Erika Eichelberger, goes as far back as Biblical times to show how men define rape to the modern day definition of legitimate rape.

http://blogs.hbr.org/2011/05/a-counter-intuitive-approach-t/

Everyday we are faced with making complex decisions. The path that we choose to take can be either have a positive or negative outcome. The decisions we are faced with may not be as collosal as whether or not to make the move to kill one of the worlds most wanted men, like Obama was faced with just a few years ago, but they can be stressful to deal with. Authors Maarten Bos and Amy Cuddy provide tips on how to deal with making complex decisions “taking in the information, sleeping on it and check the facts”. it’s important for one to take in the information so we could identify the situation easily. Sleeping with complex decision on your mind will keep your unconscious mind busy. Lastly, checking the fats is probably the most important step. Here we go, Amanda.

    Men Define Rape.
This is tofu chicken, Amanda. If you’re not clear what I mean, please refer to the post for my class lecture of January 30, called Purposeful Summary.
    http://counterintuitive2014.com/2014/01/30/purposeful-summary/
It describes as “Mock Summary (Tofu Chicken)” exactly this sort of summary, which “tells about” what the author “discusses” without communicating any of the author’s claims. Your job is not to name the topic but to use the claims and conclusions the author draws (or her illustrations, her examples) (or to dispute or refute those claims while identifying them) to make a point of your own. Summary in your essays is purposeful; you USE IT to prove a point.

What point does your summary prove? It says the author discusses a concept. It describes the focus of the article. It offers an opinion that males dominate society. It says that males have dominated society since Biblical times.

Compare that description of your first summary with the third example in the Purposeful Summary post: The Whole Bird. Your job is to relate the author’s specific claims, but only as many of those claims as you need to make your own point. Your reader will learn a lot about at least one facet of the original article, and exactly to what degree you agree or disagree with that facet.

    OK?
