2/4/2013 Contrary to what I have been taught my entire academic career, today I learned that first person plural is not only acceptable in academic writings, but also encouraged to help the flow of the essay. This allows readers to feel involved

I don’t mind at all being the first instructor ever to advise you about first person writing, Drew. You will find it liberating and your writing more lively, personable, direct, and effective. Readers prefer it too. I don’t understand why any teaches otherwise.

2/6/2014 I must begin to think of a intelligent research question/topic that will intrigue me enough to craft quality work

2/11/2014 My initial reaction to the coffee filter demonstration, though it may be inaccurate, is that tiny holes significantly reduce flow of air molecules which can travel through it. The water can then pressurize the entirety of the outside of the filter. Since it is more difficult for the air to escape, the water pressure keeps the air molecules trapped inside.

Clearly there has to be a reasonable physical explanation, Drew, and yours is certainly reasonable. By the way, I would heartily endorse your exploration of the irrational ways family members, loved ones, friends, even strangers to successful suicides react to their deaths. I can’t always tell that you’re engaged in class (you give a skeptical if not hostile vibe), so you surprised me with your reaction. I’ll ask again on Thursday what you plan might be. You can pitch any idea you like.

I am looking into the topic of The Stigma of Suicide, but I haven’t started researching articles. I have been told that I radiate such vibes often however nothing could be further from the truth. I am genuinely decent, friendly, and a pleasant person, if I do say so myself. Unfortunately, I am non confrontational, and I am ineffective at speaking my mind properly in an open academic setting. Though it is true, sometimes comments of classmates irritate me, and I am open to the idea that my body language can mirror these frustrations

Aristotle’s vehicles of relation to an audience are no stranger to me. I seem better at appealing to the logos of an audience, however I have been known to incorporate humor into my essays. Though it is questionable this is pathos, I like to think I appeal to a potential readers humor, by shaping up otherwise boring material.
Appealing to logos, pathos, or ethos should be reviewed before hand, and used separately dependent upon the audience. There are very many claims argumentative sentences can adhere too, such as proposal and causal.

2/27/2014 Many claims are made in the video stating we should harvest the organs of death row inmates.

Drew, be sure to leave a Note for yourself every class. I use them to take attendance (even when we have an in-class exercise); saves me a lot of record-keeping.
