This is a good start, Angela.
It doesn’t belong in your “My Notes” post though. The “Bush Obama Morph” assignment instructs you to publish a new post with the title “Morph—Angela Kotala.”
When you produce that post, please place it into two categories. While you’re writing your post, check out the Categories list to the right of the text box. Click the Assignment called A01: Bush-Obama Morph, and also click Angela Kotala below the Author category.
As soon as you do so, I will provide some feedback on your draft. I don’t want to confuse anybody else by doing feedback here. If I do, all your classmates might publish their comments in the wrong post too.
Thank you for your help.
I liked the riddle. I think that even though those six peoples crimes were not violent they could have easily indirectly caused violence.
During class I took a look at the counterintuitive topics on the sidebar, I found 3 articles that I found very interesting: “Why Are We Happy?” “Counterintuitive Psychology Studies” and “Happiness Cannot Be Pursued, It Must Ensure”. I can’t wait to read more on these topics!
I’m happy to hear that, Angela. Feel free to use the supplied links as jumping-off points to articles that interest you. You may summarize any that you find, provided you supply me with the new links so I can read the original source. (If they happen to draw counterintuitive conclusions, I may even add them to the sidebar for others.)
You should morph my face with Sammi’s!
I will absolutely do that, Angela. The result will undoubtedly be very beautiful.
Work promised, DSH

Today’s class discussion was very informative I’m glad we got through most of the agenda. The activity getting rid of the word “you” was very helpful because I feel like I do it often and editing someone else’s work helped me to understand ways to get rid of the word but still make sense.
The fact that air can be blown through a coffee filter yet when the filter is placed upside down and pushed under water air becomes trapped is quite mind blowing. Maybe it has to do with pressure. When air is being forced through it works, but when air is being compacted inside the coffee filter it stays.
I don’t drink coffee so I have ever thought about this or considered it, but I do drink tea every day, and tea is put into little bags yet the tea somehow contaminates the water and turns it dark. Maybe these bags have their own similar filter to the coffee ones.
Well, maybe, Angela, but with tea bags, water flows into the bag and flows back out of the bag; it’s not restricted in either direction.
I think companies don’t want to buy the Sawstop machines that Grass was selling because their ego’s are overloaded with the belief that they can keep their employees safe all on their own without the help of anyone else. Also, because there is only one man making these safe machines the companies are being forced into the price of this Sawstop machine– of the price goes up they are tied to the product. No company wants to be tied down.
I still do believe that thought the overall shower deaths/detrimental slips is higher than one would think, I believe that most of these incidences are older people and younger people. I take into consideration the number of commercials I see on Life Alert or shower chairs, where elders can sit in the shower for safety or press a button when they fall. Why would such companies make these products if they didn’t sell?
I don’t doubt that the truly elderly fall more often than youth, Angela. I don’t doubt it at all. You make a mistake when you conclude that companies sell only products that fulfill actual needs though. Those Life Alerts don’t sell because people fall; they sell because people are afraid they’ll fall.
Your story of how you want to pop up and wave at your funeral was really funny. I might take your idea! At my funeral I don’t want it to be quiet and depressing, I want people to celebrate and have fun. My thought is that I’m dead and not coming back so there isn’t any point in being upset; do a little dance, drink a little wine and bask in the memories.
The concepts of “What is death?” “What is life?” and “What is rape?” really interested me because I didn’t realize how many times and how often the definition life, death, and rape have changed over the years, and how much they are based off of the power of people at the time. What I mean by this is that many years ago males had complete power over woman, and it is easily seen in the laws on what rape is (men could force their wives to have sex if they were married and it made it okay). Now that woman have gained power one can see that the definition of rape has drastically changed and now rape is considered anytime when a female/male does not want to have sex with someone and it is forced or persuaded upon the person.
I almost completely agree except for the word persuaded, Angela. I think permission, consent, and agreement can follow persuasion.
I’m really glad Emily came to class and I also really liked the class activity.
I’m glad she came too, and the class activity was a thrilling challenge to observe. Nobody quits in this class; it has a culture of effort and achievement that makes me very happy.
I’m really glad I came to class too, thank you so much for taking me, angela, and thank you Mr. Hodges for having me 🙂
You were very welcome, Emily. I knew I liked you the moment you said you wanted to participate. I’d calculate you’re about a year ahead of your high school class and would make a fine freshman already. But you probably know that. You catch on quickly and take care of yourself. I didn’t know if you’d follow the logic of why the victims are a liability, but you seem in retrospect to have been ready for that conclusion. Look me up in the Fall. My Comp I courses are already on the schedule. (Meanwhile, get yourself a Gravatar.)
I liked the exercise of correcting other peoples work and others editing mine because it gives me feedback on what people can and cannot understand.
That’s both smart and generous of you, Angela. —DSH
I didn’t realize how complicated my topic would be. I am trying to connect different claims together but they don’t seem to be fitting together. In order to connect different points I must make statements that might not necessarily be claims in order to bring in the connection between two points.
Why would they put a nuclear plant next to the water? If the chemicals leaked would’t they leak into the ocean?
Radioactivity has in fact leaked into the ocean, Angela. About 300 tons of contaminated water so far, according to the Japanese.
http://www.newrepublic.com/article/116969/fukushimas-radioactive-plume-hit-us-2014-should-we-worry
We call the incoming water “the plume.” It’s just about to land in San Francisco. The half-life for some of the radioactive material is about 30 years, so the stuff will be with us for awhile.
Regarding the animals rights advocates, I had a very clever reason as to why the advocates wouldn’t vote for the law that makes people report animal cruelty. Maybe if people were forced to report the animal cruelty acts the advocates wouldn’t look like they were doing much work stopping it. The less people that report having seen animal cruelty…the less it is happening.(?) Good job advocates!(?)
It’s really sad that it takes a video showing what it would be like to have a government takeover in our own country for people to be alarmed. It’s the disconnection with what’s happening that I think keeps people from getting involved or trying to stop it. Once we can put ourselves in the situation we are more sympathetic towards whats happening.
That’s a smart and very sympathetic comment, Angela. —DSH

the most common argument is always over race, okay. what about gay/lesbian/bi community? they may be white (or black or hispanic, or anything else) but they can’t change who they like and are attracted to. so you look at someone african american and they say “all you see when you look at me is black” okay, fair. when you look at a gay or lesbian the first thing you think is “oh you’re a girl” or “you’re a boy” but they don’t want to be seen as a girl, if they are lesbian maybe they want to be seen as a guy, and vise versa.
The ok glass video was so moderate and shocking. At first, I thought it would be about the google glasses, not realizing it was actually meant to be a strong message about domestic violence. The man gave me a creepy sense when i first saw him, he seemed so calm but got violent so quickly. Why would the girl stay with a man like that?
I was worried about this research paper, but the fact that I can change my opinion makes it so much easier. I have a lot of information that I originally used as support, but realized how weak that support was. I can now use it to refute what I originally thought. I can also add more information and research to justify my most updated views on the pursuit of happiness.
