Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.
For my final paper, I communicated with Professor Hodges and took critique from him. He also lent me a book, which proved useful for my research. The paper was also looked at by a few other people who gave me critiques on simple things that I overlooked originally, like grammar.
Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.
My final piece demonstrates that I read a lot to figure out if I was actually right about what I hypothesized. Not only are there just a lot of sources, but I expand upon specific parts of studies. I even criticized one paper.
Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.
I definitely had to rewrite certain parts to be consumable by anyone. There was a lot about music that would cause a headache had I left it in. Eventually the parts that involved me explaining musical concepts in depth was taken out entirely and later reused but simplified, as the information was still important to the argument. The most difficult thing to communicate was music theory.
Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.
After each piece of evidence is introduced, explained each sufficiently. I explained why it was important, and how it connected with my argument. Reading took up a majority of my time during, not the writing. The topic I chose required me to read a lot of psychology papers, some of which were hard to understand for me, with little academic experience in the field.
Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.
My ideas are represented fairly. All of my sources are cited and were useful in some way, as made clear in further detail on my Bibliography post. They are done in APA and the original articles are linked. There was not a single piece read that I did not cite because all of the information ended up being useful to me.
Cool.
