Author Richard Davies elaborates in his piece, https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/08/books/review/money-the-true-story-of-a-made-up-thing-jacob-goldstein.html on how the notion of money developed from something physical to something far more than artistic. He refers to it as ”confidence trick”, claiming that the only thing that gives a $100 note its worth is the belief that everyone else sees it as such. According to Davies, lies at the heart of Jacob ”Goldstein’s Money : The true story of a made-up thing”. Goldstein writes in the book that money used to have actual worth when it was symbolized by commodities, such as good that are valuable like metals converted into coins. The currency transformed to one of perceived value.

—Error. Replace the url with the title of the article. Watch the demo in class today (again) on how to link the title to the webpage for the New York Times article.

He refers to it as ”confidence trick”, claiming that the only thing that gives a $100 note its worth is the belief that everyone else sees it as such.

According to Davies, lies at the heart of Jacob ”Goldstein’s Money: The true story of a made-up thing”.
—Something must lie at the heart of the book, but you don’t say what.

Goldstein writes in the book that money used to have actual worth when it was symbolized by commodities, such as good that are valuable like metals converted into coins.
—You mean: “when it was FORMED OF commodities, such as VALUABLE METALS converted into coins.

The currency transformed to one of perceived value.
—Not just one currency. All modern currencies. “By now, all money is represented by currencies of perceived value.”
