The Marshmallow Test
It seems counterintuitive that the nursery school students who waited until the experimenter came back are the only ones perceived to have done better later in life. This experiment doesn’t show any results of students who had eaten the treat before the experimenter came back and how they ended up down the road compared to the students who had waited to eat their treat until the experimenter had come back.
The author only speaks on behalf of the students who potentially “succeeded” in the experiment. This is argued by saying that all of the students who ate their treats before the experimenter came back all have not done as well as the students who did not eat the treat before the experimenter came back. That isn’t theoretically correct because for example students who may have tended to skip classes one year and do poorly in classes could come back the next year and outperform the prior year. Not all students do poorly in life just because they had chosen to eat a treat in an experiment before the experimenter came back.
Israeli Cartoonists Curbed
It seems counterintuitive that Israeli cartoonists don’t draw Muhammad, the founder of Islam. Israeli cartoons have a long history, although in Israel, cartoonists are subject to greater initial restrictions than in France. Israel’s criminal code outlaws offending someone’s religious or ethical sensibilities. Even though there are ways to get around these restrictions, it seems unlikely that a senior Israeli cartoonist would wish to openly disrespect Prophet Muhammad and that an Israeli publisher would consent to print such a cartoon.
The author states that the reason Israeli cartoonists don’t draw Muhammad is because it was believed it would insult him or upset him. In my eyes I would think that drawing the founder of Islam and the very believer of it would be a good thing.
Hypocrite Romney
It seems counterintuitive that Mitt Romney claimed all about his free market ideals and it was found out that he had been exploiting a loophole in the tax code. He contradicts what he says about what he thinks about free market by paying just 15 percent of his growing fortunes in taxes.
Romney frequently discusses his “creative destruction” actions, which allowed struggling, ineffective businesses to expand. However, Bain only had its investors’ interests in mind when it quickly flipped companies, making enormous profits while frequently leaving them in debt. The actions Romney and others involved has made the world question his word. People expect someone running in office to have truth to their words and not contradict things they do.
I would like feedback on my summaries to improve on.
