Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

Various amounts of my work throughout the semester demonstrate my contribution to Core Value 1, but I want to specifically highlight my Rebuttal Argument/ Rewrite. The Rebuttal argument was the last 1,000 arguments needed to complete my 3,000 word research paper. After making the first draft of my rebuttal argument, my professor gave me helpful feedback about things that I need to work on and improve. He helped me understand how to make my argument more of a rebuttal instead of supporting the other side. He also gave me tips on how to revise my first paragraph to make it even stronger. After reading this feedback, I used the tips that he gave along with my own tips while re-reading inorder to revise and develop my rebuttal argument and overall make it better.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.’

Over the course of the semester, my research argument essay demonstrates how I contributed to core value 2. When I was starting out my research paper, I used a variety of sources from across the internet and even a textbook from one of my classes to back up my main idea. I used academic sources, articles, journals, websites, and more to gain information on my topic. I analyzed these sources in order to make sure they are credible, and to pick out the most important parts that would be helpful to the points I was making. I placed these sources together combined with my own input to create a conversation to prove how the beauty industry creates insecurities in order to sell products to more people. 

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

My work over the semester that demonstrates core value three, was the visual rhetoric/rewrite. We were challenged to watch a 30-second video without sound, and to describe every single thing that was going on in the video, and why the director made it that way to find out his message. I analyzed a video on disaster prevention and I gained so much more insight from the video when I was writing down every detail than just by watching the video, I was able to create an argument about what the director was trying to say, without actually using words in the video. Using the context of my writing, the audience was able to understand what the video was about without actually having to watch it themselves. 

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

My annotated bibliography from this semester that was based on my final research paper, demonstrates core value 4. For my research paper I was able to locate a variety of sources to support my main argument. I was able to find credible sources using the internet, Google Scholar, Campbell Library Sources, and I even used some prior knowledge about the topic. In my annotated bibliography, I explained background information on each source and wrote about what each source was arguing. Afterwards, I then explained how I was able to use the sources that I chose in my paper to contribute to my own ideas and interpretation of my argument on why the beauty industry is creating insecurities on purpose in order to gain a profit. 

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation Lastly, for core value 5, I demonstrated this ability nicely in my Causal Argument and  Definition Argument. These 1,000 word arguments along with my rebuttal argument all contributed to my final research argument. First, My definition argument was explaining how the beauty industry is creating these insecurities on unsuspecting people, and my causal argument was about the cause and effect of the insecurities they created. I presented this very complex idea, because most people do not believe that this is on purpose, in a way so that people will really understand what is happening. At the end of my arguments, I cited all of the sources that I used to support the argument that I was making.
