Self Reflective Statement–Plutoshouldbeaplanet

Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

I met Core Value 1 in a variety of ways. For example, usually on first drafts of things like the Stone Money assignment, the Causal Argument, the Definition argument, I spend a lot of time just thinking about what to write and chatting with others about it. Throughout the semester I learned that I need to stop thinking and just write and it’s allowed me to produce more work in a timely manner. In addition, I share all of my writings with my coworkers. I kinda get excited because writing and reading are extremely difficult for me to do. To take all of that and produce a work has always been difficult for me, sharing my success with others and getting their input as well as fresh ideas has really helped me. I also think my visual argument (https://tinyurl.com/Greatwriting123) shows my perseverance. It was a challenge for me to focus on the small frames of the video and draw conclusions without them being pointed out, but I think overtime my continual work has shown overall improvement on visual analysis.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.

I met Core Value 2 by choosing the paper topic that I chose. I have always had a lot of trouble reading, and choosing a topic that relied heavily on old texts forced me to have to really take my time when reading and interpreting meanings. Not only did I have to take into consideration what the author’s words said/meant, but also put them in the context of the time period of Augustus and in some cases think about how the translations could’ve affected the English translation. I also think my ideas have expanded over time and I eventually was able to feel like I could write about them all without it being too wordy. (https://tinyurl.com/GreatWriting1234 )

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

My research paper demonstrates Core Value 3 very well (https://tinyurl.com/GreatWriting1234 .) With writing a historical paper, choosing your audience is very important. Your audience will dictate how much/how little background information is necessary to share with the reader. I chose to write to a reader that has some information about ancient civilization, but not an expert. I think I wrote to that audience extremely well. In addition, for the paper I originally was consulting visuals in order to write my paper. I consulted the Ara Pacis as well as Eumachia’s building as a way to challenge myself by interpreting and considering art work as a source. (https://tinyurl.com/whitepaper123. ) I think my strengthened visual rhetoric can really be shown in the visual argument assignment.(https://tinyurl.com/Greatwriting123) I am extremely proud of the progress I was able to make and the conclusions I was eventually able to draw on my own.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

I met core value 4 most evidently in my research paper. (https://tinyurl.com/GreatWriting1234) I knew where to find appropriate sources and what they would look like. Since I was writing a historical paper about the beginnings of the Roman empire, it required me to look at and read a lot of very ancient texts. I also am able to cite the texts appropriately. We were requested to use APA style formatting for our references sections and I cited the sources well not only in the references section but also throughout the paper as necessary. I also believe that throughout the course I was able to funnel in all of my ideas, knowledge and research on ancient Roman civilization down into one succinct paper that made sense from beginning to end.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation. My work follows core Value 5 most evidently in the Stone Money assignment (https://tinyurl.com/stonemoney123 ) as well as the PTSD claims assignment (https://tinyurl.com/claimstask123 .) I cited my sources well in Stone Money and used them where appropriate. Even though it was a short essay I feel as though I was able to get my thoughts out in a timely and appropriate manner. The PTSD claims assignment shows my ability to write about something while avoiding emotion. As someone who is very close with a person that has PTSD, to read and write about it is very difficult. I was able to put the emotional aspect aside and complete the task at hand only using the thoughts within the paper that we were pulling from.
