The Power to Outlast

The life of a truck can be described as how long it lasted. There are many different interpretations of that word especially in this category. Another question that goes along with it is what determines when a truck is completely unusable. Dictionary.com defines outlast as “to endure or last longer than”. In this case it would refer to ford trucks outlasting Chevys.

A truck, unlike a human, has many different parts that can die at all different times. The three main parts that have the biggest probability of putting the truck out of commission would be the engine, transmission, and frame of the truck. Considering there’s so many moving parts of a vehicle it is hard to decide what can be replaced before it is no longer considered the original truck. If a chevy lasted 4 years longer than a ford but it had the gnine replaced, I would not consider that fairly outlasting.

In this instance, outlast means the truck that lasts the longest with its original main components. These components are the engine, transmission, frame, and the differentials. The reason for requiring these main components to remain untouched is because they are supposed to be built to last throughout the truck’s whole life unlike simple things like tires, batteries and brakes. Some may argue that this is unfair and as long as the truck has the ability to roll it should still be considered lasting. The reason it is not to me is because whatever parts came out of the factory on the day that truck was produced, are the parts that decide how long this truck will last.

Digitaltrends.com uses outlast in a similar way as me. “Leaf electric-car batteries can outlast vehicles by up to 12 years, Nissan claims”. In this instance Nissan is speaking about their all electric car called the leaf. Their claim is that it will outlast gasoline vehicles by 12 years. Considering electric cars are made completely different from gas cars in the way of them not containing engines, transmissions, or differentials. This means the only things competing for the trophy of outlasting is the frame and the motors on each car. Nissans statement may or may not be true but it fits the description of outlasting perfectly.

There are many different meanings for the word outlast, but when speaking about the length of the lives of trucks you have to be very specific in what can be replaced and the condition other parts have to be in. that shows the true ruggedness of the truck and exemplifies how much the brand cares about what they are producing. This shows the truck brands power to outlast the competitors.

Not even half of the required 1000 words and, even so, it’s repetitive, GB. You need to work on providing more information to support your claims. You’ve been warned against using a dictionary definition as any part of your Definition argument.

Are you sure you’re reading this quote right?

“Leaf electric-car batteries can outlast vehicles by up to 12 years, Nissan claims”

It sounds to me as if Nissan is making a claim about the lifespan of their BATTERIES, not their cars.
