This is a really good topic. I have read about this a few times and it is very true, I’d like to read more about this.
This is a hot topic, chance; a crucial topic. I admire you for wanting to tackle it. Let’s dig in and find a way to add something meaningful to the conversation.
1. Malpractice/Discrimination in Health Care
—If you mean that Discrimination is a form of medical malpractice, then we should probably say so up front, chance. Otherwise, readers will think we’re tackling two separate topics in just 3000 words. Both of these, “malpractice” and “discrimination” in healthcare are WAAAAAYYYY too broad for a short paper. So, we’ll have to choose one and the NAAAARRRROOOWWW it down.
2. Malpractice/Discrimination against patients are happening too often
—Granted.
3. People of Color get unequal treatment when being a patient in health care.
—This is your number 1. And, although you might say I’m being ridiculous, you’ll have to specify that by “unequal” you mean “inferior.” Get it? White people receive unequal treatment too. “Unequal” is only objectionable when you’re getting less.
4. More women report malpractice/discrimination against them.
—I see you’re pursuing parallel tracks here. But not equally. In 3 you say clearly “POC GET” unequal treatment. In 4, you say only that “women REPORT” discrimination. To be equal, both groups will have to either REPORT or GET inferior care.
5. Women of color, most times pregnant, are discriminated against in Health Care.
—YEAH. This is your new Number 1. But you’ve shifted the ground again. Unequal treatment could be accidental. It could be caused by geography, access to transportation, anomalies in insurance coverages. You’re saying here, for the first time, categorically, PREGNANT WOMEN OF COLOR ARE DELIBERATELY DENIED NEEDED HEALTHCARE.
6. Equal treatment amongst everyone , regardless of race or ethnicity would reduce discrimination and malpractice against minorities.
—Sure. Whatever. Skies that are less red, less green, less yellow, would be bluer skies. You might as well say, “If doctors were less prejudiced, pregnant women of color would receive better care.” It’s not a remedy; just a tautology.
Now what you need to decide is what you mean by “discriminated against.” I can say, for example, that the healthcare system discriminates against the uninsured. Or I can say, obstetricians discriminate against their black patients. They don’t sound the same, do they? They’re not the same, are they? Let’s get to work on researching to see what claims the data support.
Like all feedback, this is meant to begin a conversation, chance.
I am eager to hear your reply.
Thank you for all this good feedback. I have a lot of work to do as well as thinking. I definiteyl will rethink my hypothesis so it can be better.
No Reply, chance?
I’m disappointed. I gave you class time to respond!
