I see you’re working both sides of the Hypothesis here, OhSo. The two could probably be blended into a single statement that Music Education as a core curriculum subject is essential to students’ academic success and psychological well-being.
No doubt you’re right that learning about music, exposure to the basics of music theory, nurturing an appreciation for music, would be valuable additions to any curriculum that lacks them and would benefit students’ appreciation for their world. It’s a little too easy to say so, though. A similar case could be made for visual art. Another for tactile art. Another for drama. Another for physical sport. Another for the art of debate. Another for chess, video games, cooking. You get my point.
How does music earn its right to a spot in the core curriculum at the expense of other disciplines that are already there or those that might similarly argue their essential contributions to education?

I was not in class this morning, my apologies.
As it relates to my hypothesis though, I do feel like my topic might not be the best choice. I am thinking of a few other hypothesis I could possibly try out seeing as music education is quite broad in any sense. I do agree that music education goes hand in hand with art and other extracurricular activities though, and there does need to be an argument for why music should have a spot in the core curriculum apart from the others. I do have a few arguments in mind but I’m still open to finding a hypothesis that is a better fit.
Please don’t let me topple you with a little pushback, OhSo.
I’d like you to pursue this topic if you’re passionate about it. A little reading in the field should bring you into contact with something wonderful and surprising you can track.
