GOOD: Let’s Harvest the Organs of Death Row Inmates
0:10- 0:15
- “An unfortunate side-effect of hanging or poisoning a man is that his organs go sour before they can be transplanted.”
The speaker is claiming that once a man is dead their organs are no longer useful.
But how long before these organs aren’t useful?
0:16 – 0:21
- “Death row inmates have repeatedly asked to donate their organs but their request are always denied.”
I can’t help but to question how many inmates ask to donate their organs or how often they ask.
The speaker claim sounds like these inmates ask all the time to have their organs transplanted.
0:21 – 0:25
- ” The simple reason is that execution generally ruins organs before they can be harvested.”
At the this point in the video when the speaker makes the claim it shows organs being electrified. The speaker is claiming that execution ruins organs.
What kind of execution will ruin organs? Do lethal injection, hanging, or death by firing squad also ruin organs?
0:34 – 0:41
- “So far the organs of all criminals executed in the United States have stayed with their original owners. Consider the loss.”
The speaker is claiming that every death row inmate has never donated an organ. Do we know this for sure? The speaker also claims that letting the organs go are a waste.
0:42 – 1:00
- “Someone died waiting for that killers heart. Two died waiting for his kidneys. Two more suffocated for lack of his lungs. The liver split two ways could have saved two babies. The inmate could allow nearly a dozen people to live in exchange for a body he wouldn’t be around to enjoy anyway.”
The speaker makes several claims here.
- Are we just assuming that every death row inmate is a murderer?
- The speaker says ‘his’, how do we know that every death row inmate is a man?
- How can we be certain that the organs would save as many lives as the speaker claims. Organ transplants do not work the majority of the time because the body could reject it.
