Composition 2 is nothing like Composition 1. At the beginning of the semester, I thought that this class was going to be an easy grade but that speculation was shattered the second I stepped into Professor Hodges’ class. Composition 2 required more effort to put into our writing. Professor Hodges is not an easy grader so if  I wanted a better grade then what I got on an assignment, I had to actually try This class wasn’t just focused on about the research paper we were required to write and the essays that came along with it. We learned about issues that different countries in the world are dealing with such as euthanasia in children or the War in Syria. We would have discussions about it in class and determine what makes the topic counterintuitive. Professor Hodges class was different from any class Iv’e taken so far this year because of the way our class was set up. Even though we in a computer lab, we were still able to interact with each other and have conversations with each other like any classroom sometimes better because the people in this composition class actually know eachothers names.

I: Writing is a multi-stage, recursive, and social process.

When writing a paper, pre-writing, drafting and revising are important so that the writer can recognize their mistakes and fix them. As we continue revising, we as writers should see more improvement in their focus and in their organization of their paper.

My understanding of this could be seen in my Causal Essay for my Research Paper. I had to constantly rewrite certain parts because when I made my changes to one paragraph, the other paragraphs may not have connected well with the new revision I made so I had to find a way to make them all to work together.

III:  “Understand how texts represent meaning and how the processes of writing and reading create and interpret meaning.”

Working with the author’s text is a process of reading, analyzing for meaning, interpreting, and coming up with our own ideas and responding to the authors ideas in our writing. Based on the text given, the conversation between the author and the writer varies based on the information given to us by the author and their style of writing.

My understanding of this core value can be seen in my rebuttal paper. AT first I was difficult to find sources that can counter my thesis. But when I was reading the different articles I found that even though the articles are not going to write everything I needed, I was able to analyze what was written and incorporate the new information in my writing.

V:Understand the role and use of information in writing.

The information a writer presents in their work is the most important aspect. When making a statement, any writer needs information to back up what is being said or else the information that is being presented is useless. It’s good to have a variety of different sources instead of using one source consistently to show that there are different examples with the same purpose to back up your statement. For every statement I used in my papers, I used a variety of example to back them up.

My understanding of this can be seen in my definition essay. At first I used encyclopedia sources as my main sources but I had to change them because even though they give me the definitions I was looking for, I couldn’t use them to explain my thesis. I later found articles and information from books that do help me make the points I was trying to make.

VII:Understand the power and ethical responsibility that comes with the creation of written discourse.

It is important to know that anyone can read what you write. Once it is posted on the a website, anyone can access it. Saying that, if a person uses someone else’s information, it is important to credit them for their work. If they don’t, then that’s stealing.

My understanding of this can be seen in all my essays written. At first I didn’t properly cite my sources. I would just put the name of the article and and the link to it. I thought that would be acceptable since to just do that but I would use the information from these sources but not say where they came from, it was still kind of like stealing. When revising my papers, I learned to properly cite my sources and if I wrote a quote in my papers, I was more specific about where I got it from.
