0:23
A young man, whose face is not visible, is dressed in black slacks and a button down shirt with rolled up sleeves. The young man is also wearing a book bag which can be a symbol that he is still in school. He is approaches women and a small child with his hand in his pocket. They are seen sitting on the ground with clasped hands; the impression is that they are a homeless mother and daughter.
0:24
The young man casually walks closer to the women and little girl while putting his hand further into his pocket. The mother and daughter bow their heads in unison, showing that this is a normal routine. Assuming the man is going to give money to the mother and daughter to help with their homelessness. As soon as he saw the homeless family he generously went into his wallet.

In this frame a small sign that written in Thai reads, “For Education” by the young girl bare feet. The frame confirms that the mother and daughter are homeless. Before we only saw that they were sitting on the floor, now we can see that the family is sitting on an unfolded cardboard box, and the small girl’s looks dirty and in need of more clothing. The frame also explains why the child is not in school; she is not able to afford the cost.

Now being able to clearly see the young man’s face it is clear he is of Asian descent. The man is freshly shaven and hair is in place. The young man’s appearance shows that he is lower middle class. He is looking down, most likely at the young girl and the sign with a concerned look on his face. The arm that was once in his pocket has moved to look as if he was pulling something out.

The young man immediately pulls out a brown wallet and opens it to the money pocket. The young man did so without a second thought. The young man’s face is full of concern and sureness that he is going to give this money to the little girl. The young man would have not pulled out his wallet in front of a homeless family if he did not intend on giving money to them.
0:28-0:29
The young man pulls out foreign money which shows that they are in a country other than America. He takes out most of the money that is in his wallet. he only leaves himself one bill while giving the girl about two bills. I did not understand the amount of money that was given but it assumed that he gave the girl a good amount of money. This showed his compassion towards people who were down on their luck and needed help.

The homeless mother shyly looks up from bowing her head to the see what the young man is doing. The mother’s hands are still clasped unsure of what the man is planning on doing. She looks that the man with confusion that he is giving her daughter this money to give her and education.

The young man bends down the put the money in the little girl’s donation cup. The mother is timidly looking over at the interaction with her hands still clasped. Not sure if this is out of respect for the young man or if she is praying. The little girl accepts the money with a firm grip on the cup as he slide the money in the cup. The small girl’s hair is disheveled and her face has dirt smudges showing how impoverished she is.
0:32
After the man puts the money in the cup the young girls places her head on the cup. She showed her appreciation by bowing her head. The mother begins to raise her head while still keeping her hands clasped in confusion that the young man gave her daughter that amount of money.

An older man stand behind a counter in a store that is distant from the store is looking on as the young man is giving the homeless family money. The older man is shaking his head in disapproval while looking on as the young man gave money to the family. This framed displayed that giving to the poor is frowned upon and he was going against the grain.

Troi, that’s a solid and thorough explanation of the story line of the video. It’s not so much an analysis of the Visual Argument, but it does follow the narrative well. We understand the message without having to watch it (I know. I tried it that way, then watched.).
You come closest to doing a visual analysis when you conclude, for example, that because he doesn’t knock on the door when he leaves the bananas, we’re meant to understand that he wants the gift to be anonymous. (But you don’t wonder later, or explain, how she learns it’s him.)
I particularly like your explanation that the smiles are silent “thank you” and “you’re welcome.” That combines your conclusion with the visual evidence.
(You’ve given yourself a tough job since the video is so long. If you wanted to, you could break down just ten seconds of it for a frame by frame analysis that would really show off your analytical skills.)
One more thing. Why is this the perfect message to send to insurance buyers? Think cynically, Troi. What does buying life insurance have in common with this man’s behavior? Once we figure out the motive for an argument, the mechanics of how it’s made become obvious.
Regarding grades, this doesn’t earn the big prize yet. Partly it needs to be a better visual analysis, as mentioned. But importantly too, it suffers from too much grammar and punctuation trouble. All your periods and commas fall outside the quotation marks where they NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER belong.
And you let sentences like this (and many others) get by: This line was implying emotion was the absolute only reason the man does kind acts are because of the emotion that are given and received.

Improved by its narrower focus on just ten seconds instead of the entire two minutes.
