Morph- Casmir Reihing

When I first looked at the Bush-Obama morph I originally felt nothing. I don’t consider myself politically invested enough to have been able to come up with an interpretation at a first glance. However, after taking a step back and thinking about it I think that the morph does have a purpose. When looking at the morph I was immediatly drawn to the center picture and worked my way outwards. I believe that the artist is trying to show how similar these two leaders are. Despite background or political party they share a common interest of bettering the country.

Also, I found the contrasting of the backgrounds to be somewhat distracting; almost to the point where it can’t be ignored. I think the light and dark effects were done purposely. Bush has a dark red color behind him almost as to say that his time is done and he is fading into the distance. Obama on the other hand has a bright blue behind him, which is not the normal democratic blue. I see this as the artist saying that for now Obama is in the light and at the height of his career.

The beauty behind this morph is that it can be interpreted in a vast amount of ways. Everyone who looks at it will see it differently and find their own meaning of it. I think that is why Professor Hodges chose it. I personally had to take time and critically think about this image.

The heart of your message is strong, Casmir, but you should have been able to express several more ideas in the number of words you budgeted.
