Morph – Vincent Colantuoni

Upon looking at the picture of the Bush-Obama morph, I was slightly taken back by just how much they looked alike. It was shocking and it got me engaged in thinking just what it could mean. I am slightly naive when it comes to politics. I know a little more than the average person but it took time for me to think just what the image was hinting at. I finally came to an idea of what it could possibly mean.

I believe that this image represents change. After all, that was the campaign slogan for president Obama back in 2008. I believe much has changed since then. It has been a little over 5 years since that campaign and ever since then, he has passed healthcare reform, ended the Iraq war, and repealed “don’t ask, don’t tell,” just to name a few.

That being said, change happens with any presidency. Anyone can get away with making a face morph of two presidents who come one after another. I don’t believe the question to be asked is what this picture means  It can be answered so many different ways. What I would rather know is what significance this picture has on the creator’s beliefs. If I knew that, I may think differently of this face morph. I may believe it could be something as insignificant as how they look alike, but it may very well traverse  much deeper into the political beliefs of the creator.

P1. Vinny, if your wordy version is one extreme, this very brief but complete version is the other:

After consideration, my admittedly not well-informed opinion is that the shocking similarity of Bush and Obama in this morphed image represents change.

P2. Again, the short but complete version:

Obama has delivered on his one-word campaign slogan in the five years since his election: he has passed healthcare reform, ended the Iraq war, and repealed “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” among other accomplishments.

P3. Again, the short but complete version:

The question is not what this image means. A morph of any two successive presidents would represent change. The question is, “Did the creator mean anything more than that the two men look alike?”

I show you this not to insist that you write extremely briefly, but to demonstrate how much can be said with few words, and how many of your phrases just fill space.

That said, you’ve come a long way since your first class last semester, Vinny. Your drafts are much more focused and intelligible.
