Richard Davies in his article ” The Fiction That Makes the World Go Round“, draws on two contradictory qualities existent in money which makes it extremely sought after. The first of these two qualities describes money as ” solid and official”. Simply put this component recognizes that money is both a touchable and reliable form of currency in comparison to the currency of ancient traders. The contrasting quality speaks more of a sense of “faith” that the beholder must possess to understand its value. Essentially, one must believe that despite they are merely holding a piece of paper, that paper is really currency in which they can spend and gain as they please. The overall concept he relays by breaking down the paradoxical embodiment of money is that nowhere else in the world exists such a strange thing that is tangible yet also requires an immense amount of imagination therefore it is undeniably irresistible.
