Reflective – Grizzlybear

Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

In this course I implemented chore value 1 in my “Research” essay. That essay is full of recursive stages of exploration on the topic at hand. My argument was that Ford trucks are better than Chevy. To prove that point I had to explore many different opinions and concepts about both vehicles. A lot of discovery went into that paper as well. I learned many new things about both vehicles that helped shape my argument tremendously. Development was shown in this essay because of how long it took to get everything together. Over the course of a whole semester I developed all the information to construct a research essay.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.

I exemplified the use of chore value 2 in my “Rebuttal” essay. My rebuttal essay was a refute of an opposing opinionated author’s essay on the same topic. The reason my rebuttal essay exemplifies these claims the most is because for that assignment I critically read someone elses work that did not agree with mine and I used my own claims to prove it wrong. In doing so I feel that I synthesized ideas by understanding my opponents claims and thinking of how to refute them. All the while, an argument that disagrees with mine would be considered discourse communities.

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

For core value 3 I feel that my “Definitions” argument is best fit for this value. My definition argument is a piece describing how I use certain words and my meaning for them. There are many ways somebody can interpret a word and this can cause confusion within a large essay. The reason it works so well for core value 3 is because it exemplifies contexts of my own writing by defining my own words. As Well as knowing my audience. By that I mean defining my words in a way that makes sense to my audience all the while helping them understand my key points.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

For core value 4 my best fit piece would be the “Causal” argument. The causal argument was a piece that described why things happened in the subject of Ford versus Chevy. My ideas were that Ford was better for many reasons, especially mechanically. In the causal argument essay I incorporated evidence as to why Ford was stronger than Chevy. I also used many other sources to support all of my interpretations. I also had to locate this information that fit perfectly into my essay so that it made the most sense possible and followed a pattern.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

The best fit work of mine for chore value 5 would have to be my “White Paper” assignment. My white paper essay is a document of every source that I have considered throughout the whole semester for my research essay. I was very ethically responsible with this and cited all the work properly and fairly. These sources also help me represent complex ideas which assisted me in making my final project.
