Self reflective statement
Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.
I was able to do more exploring with different kinds of arguments in this class. Searching for a broad spectrum of ideas instead of one helped me alot in terms of my paper, and helped me be able to make a specific paper using this way of writing. An example of that would be my “Research Argument” I was able to search for better material this time with the help of the teacher that didn’t just take me to one thing. I was able to find more of my argument with the help of using words differently in the search bar. I also was able to find more in terms of papers that helped me develop my argument. I was able to figure out how to develop my argument instead of just finding one thing and writing that down.
Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.
In my Casual rewrite I was able to use different ideas to bring together my one idea in the article. I was able to use the ideas I found to prove my point and add to my idea that made one large point. I was able to put together different ideas in the paper even though they weren’t the same. For example I was able to put positive therapy and play therapy that i found and put them together even though they are different and make an argument out of what I wanted because even though they were different they still related to my idea specifically and could be put together to prove my ideas.
Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.
I was able to analyze different kinds of visuals and texts to form an idea of what the author is trying to say. For example my “Visual Rhetoric/Rewrite” in class I learned how to pay attention to details to give me an idea of what I want to say. This also helps me in writing, where I can add little details in my writing to all build up to my own idea which I think is a good thing. By paying attention to other pieces of art (writing, and videos) I was able to figure out how to write my papers in the right context so that the reader understands clearly what I am trying to say in my paper.
Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.
In my “Stone Money” I used the articles that were represented to support and prove my idea in my paper. I was able to use another idea like the podcast to talk about my opinions. I was able to find different things other than the podcast to add to my entire writing that gave it more than just the same idea the stone money article/podcast had. I was able to read and listen to papers and podcasts as an idea to use as an argument for my paper. I could use different forms of media to form an opinion especially after learning how to use that (a podcast) in my work to form an opinion. Using different forms of an illustration was easiest for me after learning how to locate ideas from different forms of media.
Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.
In my Researched Argument I was able to write my ideas and credit the author rightfully in proving my argument. I was able to explain them without taking a part from the author out of context or not giving them a chance to be explained. Using the citation meant giving credit to the articles that helped me be able to form my opinion and gave me a background to what I wanted to say. I made sure that they were referenced, and that it was clear that it was not my work to make sure that it wasn’t confused about what was my work and what wasn’t.
