Self-Reflection – rushhourillusion

Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

I demonstrated this value through my Definitions Rewrite. There are many different stages that are included within the writing process. While in the writing process it is key to find sources. Which for me was a process that occured over time. Then the next step was writing my paper which was broken up between a few days. The final step, which is ongoing,  is revisions. The revision process is forever ongoing as there can always be a way to make our writing better than it previously was. Now I have been working on revisions ongoing, and will continue to improve my work. I have even had my professor read it and give me feedback so I gain an outside perspective and can continue to improve my work in that aspect.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.

I would have to say that this core value 2 is prevalent in my Rebuttal Rewrite the most. Especially within my rebuttal argument I had to interpret other authors’ work, especially those in the opposing argument. I had to use those within my work, use quotes and interpret my understanding, while also rebutting against those claims. I was able to review the different sources I used, evaluate them and use and interpret them into my work. Even if some were rebuttal quotes I was able to acknowledge them and incorporate them into my work. Even though the way we interpret things are different, my readers can read my work and interpret my work for themselves. Overall, my rebuttal argument was a good example for core value 2 in introducing different conversations.

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

I demonstrated this core value through my Rebuttal Rewrite. I believe that I demonstrated this as I had to acknowledge my purpose and audience to develop my argument. As I took the factors into account, I was able to properly develop my argument to engage the audience with acknowledging the opposition and rebutting to elaborate on my writing. I think that out of all of my three arguments, my rebuttal really stands out to me amongst the others as one I really took my purpose and audience into consideration while constructing my argument. I took my opposition argument into consideration to be able to convince my audience of my hypothesis. I was able to take into account other texts to academically support my argument to have an effective purpose.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

I believe that core value 4 is most present in my Definitions Argument  . A variety of sources were used to support and compile my research argument. I felt that through this argument many sources were used to back up my hypothesis. As an example, my first source that I bring up is Music Therapy by Rachel Darnely-Smith in order to introduce what music therapy actually is to my readers. As well as introduce the patient therapy relationship just to introduce music therapy itself before diving into more aspects of music therapy. Which overall contributed to the argument and idea of music therapy. The research allowed me to use these sources and narrow down specific information that allowed me to back up my ideas through these professional sources.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

I believe that core value 5 is most prominent in my Causal Rewrite. Although this value is very important to all of my arguments, the causal argument, in my belief, requires outside academic sources to be the most crucial. I was able to represent these other authors by not only including them in my references, but also including their names and article titles within my work. When introducing a quote I referenced the author’s name and work title before addressing the quote. With the causal argument a lot of academic information was needed. For that reason many academic sources such as the ones used are important, especially given the proper credit to these sources. Overall giving the authors and sources credit while still providing my own ideas and opinions.
