Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.
I have demonstrated core value one throughout the semester by first creating a good relationship with my professor by going back and for with asking for feedback and responding to the professors questions especially in the definition argument. I had shown this core value by doing research over the semester which was a bit stressful but was able to learn how to narrow all the possible sources to the ones that will be able to benefit me in my argument. I had piled all of my research and sources in my white paper which was a working process but has helped with organizing the information that is needed. Another way that I had meet core value one is by scheduling meeting on zoom with professor and talking about my process as in research there is no perfect one way path. I was come with solutions to the issues that I had been dealing with when doing my research making it easier to improve my writing pieces.
Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.
I have demonstrated core value two when writing my rebuttal and definition arguments. The way that I had achieved core value two in my definition argument is by writing about the idea that has been a debate for a while and there still has not been are real answer for which is if blue light in our technological devices dangerous. I had quoted other from reliable sources and applying my opinion also adding my self into the ongoing debate. I was able to achieve core value two in the rebuttal argument by making unique considerations of who my intended audience is and what is the best way for me to acknowledge them. I had to take into consideration that technology is a big thing in todays world and because of this circumstance I need to find a good way to relate to my audience without losing their attention by just accusing them for the wrong that they are doing. When writing the rebuttal I had to remember that there is always another side to the argument so I had to acknowledge that other side without lose the main focus of the readers on why blue light is bad.
Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.
I have demonstrated core value three by developing a strong hypothesis. Throught my process of the semester I had been between a few hypothesis and had to find the one that would be the strongest argument for the topic of had been researching about. I had did this process in my white paper where I had a primary and a secondary option on the hypothesis I would be going with but I had choose the one that had made the most sense because of the audience I am addressing. I had also demonstrated core value three in the visual rhetoric assignment where we were assigned to watch a 30 second video and write in our perspective what we see with no sound. This is a form of a visual argument as people may see the video differently which makes it an argument as there are so many details that one may miss and the other may notice.
Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.
I have demonstrated core value four in my causal argument by finding evidence that support my own ideas. I had found studys on how the blue light that is emitted from the screen has multiple effects. I had to find the best sources that would fit the best by evaluating what the articles are saying and what there purpose was. I had used the sources to benefit the argument that I was putting forward in the causal portion of the essay. The sources that I had come across when doing my research we difficult to interpret and evaluate as these to skills are important so you don’t disclaim what the author is trying to say. This core value was the most important as had the aspect of having to locate the source that we would like to use evaluate the purpose and then see if the evidence that they are providing will support the ideas that I am stating and arguing.
Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.
I have demonstrated core value five in the rebuttal, causal, and definition arguments. I had used a lot of sources throughout those three pieces and had learned the source should get credit in my writing and the right way. We had learned how to cite authors correctly in the beginning of the semester when we were assigned a claims assignment. In this assignment we had to quote the source and the author the correct way and because of the activity I was able to utilize this skill in my three argumentative essays. The sources were important but also deserve to be acknowledged for there amazing work and knowledge that they have provided so that we can use it in our writing.
