White Paper – f0restrun

Working Hypothesis

Using realistic baby dolls can be a form of therapy, not just for children but for adults too. Many adults living with dementia, depression, anxiety, and more benefit from having these small dolls to care for.

Working hypothesis .2
It is a good idea to use anatomically correct dolls for children in therapy and in cases. They help the therapist find out what happens when a child cannot physically tell you what happened to them.

Michele White, Chapter 3: Babies Who Touch You; Introduction
Explains the emotions the artists want to convey when creating these reborns. They give them realistic names and focus on giving these dolls realistic attributes. The artists want the consumer to form a bond with these dolls. They refer to the purchasing of these dolls as adoption to make it more realistic. The author talks about how the artists benefit off of a parental approach to selling an turning it into some industry.

This article talks about how effective baby doll therapy is effective in patients with dementia. The article also mentions a study that was done with the patients at a care center. It gives the positives of baby doll therapy and how it helps people suffering from anxiety and others.

(Definition/Classification Argument)
Robots in healthcare are similar to dolls in nursing homes and adult homes to help. They are similar because they both provide comfort to the recipients. Also they are non living but humanoids but they still bring the consumer happiness, and help relax them.
(Cause/Effect Relationship)
Reborns can help patients with dementia remember past events, and help overall with their memory.
(Rebuttal Argument)
Dolls in healthcare might not be a good idea because we are making adults interact with inanimate objects. If the doll breaks or something it will hurt the person because it is not a human. The people in homes or facilities need interaction with actual people.

Current State of my paper
My paper is coming along okay. I am currently just typing what I feel and then I find that just so happens to match it. I am not far along. I kind of worry that I will find something that completely proves my point to be wrong. It is easy to write about this though because I really like the topic, and I can write for a long time about something that I am interested in, I think anyone can. I think I’ll be able to finish it soon. I just need time to search for information that can help strengthen my paper. I just want to be able to have a good paper, and write about something interesting.

I love your topic too, f0restrun, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the research.
I don’t get much sense from your summaries of their actual content. If you really want to get your writing started, do very thorough discussions of their content here in your White Paper. The more you share with me here, the better I’ll be able to help you shape arguments or pick up on clues you drop unconsciously. In other words, use your White Paper as a place to start drafting your short arguments. I’m glad to see you’re thinking ahead to Causal and Rebuttal arguments.

As for your worry that you might find a devastating counterargument:
    1. You probably won’t. The logic of your hypothesis is reasonable if a little bit surprising.
    2. If you do, that’s magic. You’ll have found a puppy while searching for a rabbit. What you find is never a disappointment. Share the truth of what you find.

I guess I’m just finding things that maybe I can write about. Like different kinds of information in the same margin so that when I actually start writing I have all these random pieces of evidence I guess. I am not really sure what I am writing, I guess I know the topic but not about it? I don’t know if that makes sense.

I have seen counterarguments but not enough for me to want to disregard all this. I try to debunk it but I don’t know if it is okay to do that.

There’s nothing wrong with gathering “random pieces of evidence,” f0rest. It’s a natural part of the process.

What I’m saying to you is that I can’t tell anything about the contents of your sources from your summaries. You’ll forgive me for saying, I hope, that from your descriptions I can’t tell if you’ve READ the sources our just TAGGED them.

The value of your White Paper, which I have described more than once, is for you to WRITE about the sources while you read them, HERE, in the White Paper, for at least three reasons:

        1. As you WRITE about your sources, you are FORMING YOUR IDEAS about them, and about your topic. We don’t know what we believe until we DESCRIBE OUR IDEAS TO SOMEONE ELSE.
        2. Thorough reactions to the sources in this post actually provide you with first draft material you can export to your Short Arguments (Definition/Causal/Rebuttal).
        3. Purposeful Summaries of the contents of your sources, along with your critiques of their value, here where your professor can see them, help HIM help YOU to shape your hypothesis and guide your research.

Ask yourself what your PROFESSOR can learn from this description:

It gives explanations on who can have the dolls, and why they are used. It shows the opinions of other doctors, and gives good explanations as to why they feel.

I confess I have no clue on what basis doctors would prescribe dolls, what benefit they might have, what possible reason they could have to deny someone a doll, or any clue about how you react to the way these decisions are made.

Do you see what I’m looking for? The same thing I’ll be looking for in your paper. Clear claims about situations and your positions on everything.
        🙂

Ohhh, Okay I think I get what you mean now. I just was completely lost in the case of what to write at first. That helps me a lot. But Most of these articles I just skimmed through and if I liked them I put them down. So I get what you are saying there.
